History
Sheraton Hotels date back to 1937, from founders Ernest Henderson and Robert Moore. The name Sheraton came from a hotel purchase, which left a sign on the roof featuring the name Sheraton. The sign stood too large, heavy, and expensive to change, so the founders left the sign and created Sheraton Hotels. By the 1940s, Sheraton Hotels commanded a strong presence along the American East Coast. In 1949, Sheraton Hotels expanded internationally with the acquisitions of two Canadian hotels. Multinational conglomerate ITT acquired the hotel chain in 1968 and expanded the hotel chain globally throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Parent company Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. purchased the hotel chain in 1998.

Interviewer:
Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Sheraton Housekeeper:
So the Sheraton, I basically was doing the room services. So I was making the beds, preparing the rooms, making sure that whenever clients came in, they were feeling hospitality. They were feeling like everything was new and fresh and exciting for themselves, so.
Interviewer:
How would you describe the application and interview process?
Sheraton Housekeeper:
Well, they basically did some screening to see what kind of person you are in terms of, like police history, things like that. Because theft and things like that do happen in a lot of places, right, especially in the hotel hospitality services. So there’s that, and then they had some workshops on diversity, ethics, things like that to see how you’re going to actually perform your duty. So if you’re talking with, let’s say, I come into the room, and somebody’s in there right now, how am I going to have conversations with them, communicate with them. So they more did that, and then you actually did the hands-on training. Where you’re learning how to make an amazing bed and how to ensure that everything is there, and the clients or whoever you’re serving feels loved and excited and wants to come back.
Interviewer:
What set you apart from other candidates?
Sheraton Housekeeper:
I’m very charismatic. I’m not afraid to talk to people. So just being able to approach someone or kind of ask them, do you need anything from me? I think showing that, my charisma, in the actual interview process, was what kind of, maybe deciphered. You know, kind of made them like it.
Interviewer:
What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Sheraton Housekeeper:
Show the importance of caring for other people. Show the importance of listening and hearing from the clients and making sure that they are taken care of. And yeah, just be yourself, be excited, be happy to be working. It’s an awesome company, so yeah. They take care of their clients, so you take care of the clients as well. So, yeah.
