I had a regular… It was like a regular interview. I remember we had to spell some words and stuff just to make sure our spelling is okay. But basic interview questions.

What set you apart from other candidates?

Pizza Nova Customer Service Representative:
I was confident in my interview, even though it was the first interview I’ve ever had. I was pretty confident. So I think that’s what sold me.

What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Pizza Nova Customer Service Representative:
Be on time. And you have to be a people person, so… and have patience, too, because there’s a lot of angry customers all the time calling. So, I’d say to work on their patience.

Interviewer:
Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Pizza Nova Operator & Customer Service Representative:
At Pizza Nova, I started out as just an operator and then eventually I was promoted to customer service representative. As an operator, you’re just taking the orders and sending them through. Customer service, you’re dealing with all the customer complaints while helping the operators and monitoring the operators. Also, dealing with any issues with the store and I guess, kind of being that liaison between the store and the customers, dealing with the drivers. That’s basically it.

Interviewer:
What was the work environment like?

Pizza Nova Operator & Customer Service Representative:
That was call center based. It was taking care of all the operations that are kind of behind the scenes. Again, it is very teamwork based in terms of working with the other customer service staff, but there is sort of a division of labor between the managers and the call center directors and then the customer service representatives and then the operators.

So in that sense, there was a certain type of seniority and I guess, authoritative stance that we had to take in terms of handling the operators because you are in charge and whatnot. I guess in that sense, it was a bit isolated.

Interviewer:
How would you describe the application and interview process?

Pizza Nova Operator & Customer Service Representative:
For the application, what they had was they would just have certain days where they would kind of have an open house. So everyone that wanted to apply, they would specify if they’re hiring for customer service reps or at-home operators or in-house operators. And then everyone would just come in with their resume. I guess you would just sign your name on a list, and everyone would get interviewed on the spot.

When they call your name, it’s about a five to 10 minute interview. They ask you certain questions, mostly just learning about yourself, like can you work in a teamwork based environment, how do you feel about such and such duties? And then they would make you do a spelling test. Initially, I was hired for an operator, so I participated in the five minute interview. Then I did the spelling test. And then they would let you know when they’re calling the people back. And luckily I got called back and then I just got offered the chance to move up to customer service representative.

Interviewer:
What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Pizza Nova Operator & Customer Service Representative:
It’s all about customer service. Whatever goes on inside of the call center, I guess, that’s separate from that. They would train you on how to handle yourself within the call center. But initially what they’re looking for is your ability to work in customer service. So I guess always being able to put the customer first, tending to customer needs.

I guess definitely you would have to have some communication skills because you’re constantly on the phone and you definitely have to be patient as well because customers aren’t always the friendliest people. That’s basically it.
