Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Pharmasave Pharmacy Technician:
It was just an entry level position. I mostly worked with the cash and cleaning up the space, and sometimes I would actually help patients, assist them in the Pharmasave. Like when they came in looking for specific medications, I’d show them, for the OTC meds.

What was the work environment like?

Pharmasave Pharmacy Technician:
It was a pretty positive atmosphere. It was in a hospital, so it was a pretty cool setting in that sense where there was a lot of new people that you would see. There was the manager and then the owner and then pharmacists and pharmacy assistants. It wasn’t a very big staff, probably about five or six people that you would see on a consistent basis. And I don’t know, they made you feel at home.

How would you describe the application and interview process?

Pharmasave Pharmacy Technician:
Well, the one thing they wanted to know was did I have experience in a hospital, because that was really important for this specific Pharmasave because there’s certain professionalism that you need in order to be working there. And I did have volunteer experience. I volunteered a lot throughout high school and the beginning of university at different hospitals, so I had that so it helped me out.

What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?

Pharmasave Pharmacy Technician:
Just pretty much educational background. They liked the fact that I was in university and I was old enough to be working in that sort of environment. And the past experience that I had in the hospital, I feel like that really helped me too, in the interview process.

What set you apart from other candidates?

Pharmasave Pharmacy Technician:
It was the experience, it was the volunteer experience. I worked at least three different hospitals in physiotherapy clinics, which you’re still working with patients, and so that definitely helped me in this position.

What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Pharmasave Pharmacy Technician:
You need to have good interpersonal skills, because you’re going to be working with a lot of different people and you’re going to be building a rapport with them. So if patients come in and then they talk to the manager and they say, “This guy was a little rude to me,” for example, that’s not going to be good. So you have to do all sorts of clubs or extracurriculars that help you build those interpersonal skills. And try and volunteer, because they like the sense that you have that sort of professionalism at clinics.
