Montana’s Cookhouse began operations in 1995. The original idea came from Kelsey’s owner Paul Jeffery and president Nils Kravis. Cara Operations gained controlling interest in Kelsey’s in 1999, which included Montana’s Cookhouse brand. I am a hostess, and basically, I greet you upon arrival. And I’m the last that you’d see when you’re leaving the restaurant. So I would then, again, say goodbye. And sometimes I’ll help bus tables or tell guests about promos and things like that.

What was the work environment like?

Montana’s Cookhouse Hostess:
The work environment’s very homey, and it’s very family-oriented there. And I find that the general public that come there, families, people that live in the area. So, we get a lot of big groups that come with friends, family, stuff like that.

How would you describe the application and interview process?

Again, I handed in a resume. Within a couple of days they called me and set up an interview. And during the interview, they asked me questions such as why do I want to work there and what sets me apart from other candidates and things like that.

What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Montana’s Cookhouse Hostess:
Just to make sure that you’re really friendly and that your personality stands out just because of my position there. I’m a hostess. So, I’m the first person. I’m kind of like the face of the restaurant. So, I’m the person greeting you. And just to make sure that you know how to interact with people while be friendly, be genuine, be nice, and just make people feel like they’re at home when they come in there.

I was a hostess at Montana’s, and basically I was responsible for bussing the tables, greeting people, seating them, helping out the servers anyway I could. We did really embarrassing birthday chance as well. So yeah, just keeping the restaurant in order to. The front of the house, basically.

Interviewer:
What was the work environment like?

Montana’s Cookhouse Hostess:
Very busy. It would actually be too extreme. Some days it would be really slow and then some days it would be super busy, depending if we overbooked and stuff like that for reservations, but it was okay. I could handle it.

Interviewer:
How would you describe the application and interview process?

Montana’s Cookhouse Hostess:
It was easy. I walked in and I just filled out an application form, attached to my resume, and then during the interview, it was very structured. My manager just asked the questions and it was very intimidating. It was like she was staring into my soul. But then I got the job, so it was good.

What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?

She asked me how I dealt with kids. And I told her that I loved kids because a lot of kids come into Montana’s. She asked me how I deal with working under pressure. And I told her I did pretty well. Just stuff like that.

What set you apart from other candidates?

Montana’s Cookhouse Hostess:
My bubbliness. She told me that she really liked how bubbly I was and that I seemed like a really outgoing person. She liked being around me.

What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Just try to be as friendly as possible. Don’t stress about it. And it should go fine. They really look for people who are just outgoing and they look easy to work with.
