Video Transcript

Interviewer:
Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Milestones Hostess:
Okay. I was a hostess and just greeting people when they came in, sitting them at their tables.

Interviewer:
What was the work environment like?

Milestones Hostess:
It’s a very chill environment. You see more adults come in than a younger crowd. It was at the Yorkdale location, so it was very busy and it was very calm, cool environment.

Interviewer:
How would you describe the application and interview process?

Milestones Hostess:
I went in to give my resume and they did like a group interview. I’m not really fan of group interviews, but that’s how I got the job.

Interviewer:
What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?

Milestones Hostess:
They asked why I would want to work as a hostess in that company. They asked if I had any other experience as like waitering or being a hostess greeting people, which I did. And also what made me… They gave me a scenario of how to be towards the customers. That’s what I remember. It was a while back.

Interviewer:
Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Milestones Grill + Bar Waitress:
At Milestones I was a hostess and a waitress at times. So I had to, hostess is basically you seat the customers at where they sit. A waitress is when the food comes out, you bring the food. If they’re… You ask them how they’re doing, how they’re eating, how the food tastes to them.

Interviewer:
How would you describe the application and interview process?

Milestones Grill + Bar Waitress:
Well, I had to fill in the application and then I had to, sometimes you have to have a food handlers certificate or a little yeah, certificate. I didn’t have it at the time when I applied, but I had to go and get it after that. It was kind of new, something that I didn’t really do and it wasn’t that hard at first. The training process was kind of hard because you have to know how to talk to customers and you have to bring them water. If they want this, how to mix their drinks and all this stuff. So it wasn’t that… It was okay. It wasn’t that bad.

Interviewer:
What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Milestones Grill + Bar Waitress:
Be patient. Be very, very patient because sometimes the customers, they’re not that nice. And they think that you know everything that they want. You’ll ask them, “Oh, would you like something to drink?” And it’s like, they’re looking at you, but I don’t know what you want. Do you want water? Do you want Coke? Do you want Sprite? So always be patient.
