I was a sales associate at Marshalls and I also worked in the fitting rooms. So for sales associate, all you really need to know and do is basically communicate with the customer. Since it was a department store, it was big appeal to women, men, kids, everyone from any age group. So basically customer service was the only thing you really needed for that store.

It was pretty friendly, plus it was a big store. So you would get a range of people coming in there. So, yeah, it was a pretty friendly environment.

How would you describe the application and interview process?
Marshalls Sales Associate:
I got hired through a job fair because Marshalls is fairly new to Canada and it wasn’t too hard because they’re not too based on fashion because it is a department store as I said. They sell many things like cookware, furniture, all that type of stuff. So it wasn’t really too dependent on fashion like a retail store would be like.

What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?

Your worst experience at another retail or another store, your worst experience. And they wanted us to explain it to them because they were really big on, like I said before, customer service, and they want to keep their reputation as well as possible. So they only want to hire people that will be able to do so.

What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Honestly, just be a respectful person. Be always happy and willing to work. You have to be efficient with time and yeah.
