Interviewer:
Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Kelsey’s Hostess:
As a hostess at Kelsey’s, primarily our duties require to welcome the guest, or the customer to Kelsey’s, ask them what they would like to do today, whether they would like to order take out, or if they wanted to sit in for dinner. If they want to sit in for dinner, we take however many menus that is necessary for the amount of people that are there and bring them to a table, tell them the features, the soups, and who their server is, and where the bathrooms are located, and to enjoy their meal and basically have a good experience at Kelsey’s. If they want to order take out, then they do the exact same thing at the bar area, where they order.

Interviewer:
How would you describe the application and interview process?

Kelsey’s Hostess:
As you walk in and you say, “Hello, I would like to apply for a job here.” They gave you a sheet to fill out the normal requirements that you need for a job. If you’ve had prior experience, your name of course, your address and your education. So if you’re post-secondary or in a high school and simple things like that, and then afterwards, if they call you in for an interview, just simple questions on how you would work in a environment like that and how well you do socially and stuff.

Interviewer:
What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Kelsey’s Hostess:
You have to be really social. So, you’d have to be able to be open with not just the customers, but also the people that you work with. It’s the whole area of working in customer service, is being friendly with not just your customers, but also not just being scared and respect, but also just being able to be comfortable in your environment that you’re working in.

Interviewer:
Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Kelsey’s Line Cook:
My basic job title is line cook. Line cook means food prep, and also cooking and cleaning of the kitchen and all kitchen duties, from prepping and stocking and inventory, to cutting and cooking and storing and all kitchen duties.

Interviewer:
What was the work environment like?

Kelsey’s Line Cook:
It’s very busy, very chaotic, and it was very… Temperatures high and also a lot of males, so a lot of testosterone, and in a small space and you have to work with your coworkers because you need about three people around you and always having communication all the time. Very important to have communication.

Interviewer:
How would you describe the application and interview process?

Kelsey’s Line Cook:
I went through one interview with the head chef and it was basically a 20-minute interview, maybe less, 10 minutes and just talking about experience. He wanted to know if I was experienced with cooking and I was, and that was it. He basically talked to me about different things, got to know my character and my personality. And then, since he thought I was a good fit, he basically told me on the spot that, I like your potential, so I’m going to have you come in on a certain day, and on a spot, he made me sign the papers for the contract. Not the contract, the waiver, I guess. I don’t know, it wasn’t a contract, but it was a waiver. After the interview was done, he told me what I needed, safety, not safety shoes, non-slip shoes, and he told me to come on a certain day and then took it from there.

Interviewer:
What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Kelsey’s Line Cook:
I think that Kelsey’s is a good place to work. I’ve had a lot of jobs and Kelsey’s was good. My advice to them is make sure you get along with the people you’re working with, because I had some problems with the people I was working with, but was finally settled. As long as you command respect, but first of all, give respect to the people that were working there from before. Have an open mind, like a sponge, and take everything in. It’s a good place to work, I think. They appreciate you. They respect you, totally.

I was a busboy at Kelsey’s and basically most of the jobs consisted of just cleaning and helping all around. I also did a little bit of cooking at Kelsey’s.

Interviewer:
How would you describe the application and interview process?

Kelsey’s Busboy:
I handed in a resume and attached with a application, and I had a one on one type of interview with the supervisor. And after the first interview, they called me in for another interview. So I went into the second interview where they mostly asked more questions about availability and what I’d do for the company and how long I’m willing to stay and things like that.

Interviewer:
What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Kelsey’s Busboy:
The advice I’d give them would be to come into work every day with a positive attitude and just fulfill your job. Be friendly because you’re going to be working with customers or guests so you’d want to have a good impression on them and yeah, just do your job.
